How to Read The Different Akoya Certificates for Pearl Science Laboratory


What Color of Akoya Pearls Have?
Akoya pearls have white, silver-blue (gray), and yellow colors.

According to the size of the certificate, it can be divided into more than 6mm and less than 6mm.

Quality factors are blemishing, surface smoothness, luster, and body colour

White akoya pearls:
The best gem quality > 6mm is named Aurora Tennyo
The best gem quality < 6mm is named Aurora Sairindama

AAA/Reserve quality grades in the "rare" sizes.

The best gem quality > 6mm is named Aurora Madama
The best gem quality < 6mm is named Aurora Saiundama

No company is perfect and Mikimoto is no exception.

What is Sairindama?
Sairindama is the same quality as Hanadama, it is the highest quality akoya of the white series with a diameter less 6mm.
What is Saiundama?
Saiundama is the same quality as Madama, it is the highest quality akoya of the blue series with a diameter less 6mm.

Golden akoya pearls

Aurora gold(Aurora 金色) belongs to the golden series, and Aurora Akoya-quene (Aurora Akoya-quene) belongs to the cream system.
Both the uniform necklace and the multicolor akoya pearl necklace can get the Aurora quene certificate.

They absolutely glow!

What conditions do akoya have can be named as Tennyo? 

Pearl body color (Numeric): below 54.7% (white series)
Gloss (Numeric) : above 6.0 (monochrome)
Surface exhibits minimal to no visible blemishes
Shape: Round ~ Symmetry
Inner Inspection – Thickness of pearl layers by optical fiber with a minimum of 0.40mm.
Diameter: >6mm
天女 (TEN-NYO) Pearls, must first qualify as Hanadama Pearls, and undergo additional stringent tests.
TERI Value Analysis – Light Interference Test, with a minimum score of 90%, known as the aurora effect to qualify as TEN-NYO Pearls.
Certified by Japan Pearl Science Laboratory, with high degree of recognition and level of technology to certify TEN-NYO Pearls.

 Mikimoto starts their scale with really nice pearls and they've got pricetags to match.

Mikimoto name cachet only in the top quality. To me, Mikimoto AAA/Reserve is worth a brand premium.

Mikimoto does clearly prize smooth akoya, though.

Next is the certificate NO-K, (diameter greater than 6mm) called Aurora rose, (diameter <6mm) Aurora Borealis

Most akoya pearls have somewhat hammered surfaces and somewhat textured skins. "Gem" quality akoya 

Blue series: NO-S is the highest quality, named Aurora Madama.
next is NO-K, named Aurora Blue Rose.

The best pearls are expensive no matter who's selling them.

More pink and better matched than the 9.25mm A+, but less lustrous.
