The chemical composition of pearls is calcium carbonate, which foams when exposed to acid. Therefore, pearl jewelry should not be worn during bathing, should not come into contact with cosmetics, and should not be exposed to acidic substances. This can potentially corrode the pearls and cause them to lose their luster.
Pearl jewelry should also not come into contact with oils, as oils can easily penetrate the surface of the pearls, contaminating them and diminishing their surface shine.
Pearls have a low hardness rating, ranging from 2.5 to 4.5. They are susceptible to impacts and scratches, so when wearing pearl jewelry, be careful not to come into contact with hard objects or other gemstones, as this can cause dents and scratches on the surface of the pearls.
Pearl jewelry should not be exposed to high temperatures or prolonged sunlight, as this can cause the pearls to turn brown.
When not wearing them, pearls should be properly stored. Remove pearl jewelry, gently wipe it clean with a clean, soft cloth, and place it in a jewelry box stored in a cool place.
